Hull   Decks Cabin Safety Hardware

 

HULL

The Suwanee 47 hull is constructed of all hand-laid fiberglass in a solid laminate. The hull has a complete system of supporting structure which consists of transverse framing, longitudinals, web frames and bulkheads.

 

Bottom to spray chine: 10 layers of alternating plies of 1.5 oz. mat & 24 oz. woven roving, with additional layers as appropriate in the way of the keel.  24 oz. biaxial knitted materials combined with 1.5 oz. mat may be used in lieu of woven roving.

 
Topsides above spray chine:  8 layers of mat/roving.
 

Double thickness reinforcement at bow, chines, and corners of transom, with suitable reinforcement at sheer.

 
Transom:   10 layers, with 1-1/2" plywood core.
 
Full-length keel, with 6 hull longitudinals.
 
Full-length skeg, 16" below hull at deepest point.
 

Main longitudinal bulkhead, supporting keel & deck (a full-length deck girder may be used in lieu of the longitudinal bulkhead, as required by machinery and tank arrangements).

DECKS

Decks are fiberglass with 3/4" plywood and 3/8" Balsa cores or, where appropriate, 1/2" plywood core.  The entire deck is fully supported by bulkheads, girders and deck beams, with additional structure in the way of all hatches and other openings.   All decks are non-skid surfaced. CABIN

Cabin sides and front (including windshield) and forward cabin top are fiberglass with a 1/2" or 3/4" plywood core or 3/8" end-grain Balsa where appropriate.  All windows are 1/4" safety glass, except on windows facing forward, which are 3/8" safety glass.      Return to top

 

SAFETY HARDWARE

All deck hardware is quality stainless steel, or chrome-on-bronze.  All rails are fully through-bolted with ample backing plates.  Rail height is 36" from deck, with spacing of stanchions and intermediate courses as required by type of service.   Return to top
